This is a couple car review of the Polestar 2 electric car built in China by Geely that also owns Volvo. We are driving the long range single motor with up to 434 km/270 miles of range, 231 horsepower and 243 lb-ft of torque.
There is also the long range dual motor with up to 418 km/260 miles of range, 408 horsepower and 487 lb-ft of torque. Both models have a 75 kWh battery. The Polestar 2 has a modern and minimalist exterior design from frameless mirrors, clean body lines, simplistic designed LED headlights and taillights, smart door handles with touch locking and unlocking and integrated ground lighting. Standard 19” wheels, available 20” and a foot activated tailgate. The simplistic design carries into the cabin with modern materials and contemporary colours including two distinct colour options, slate and charcoal. Polestar offers a vegan friendly interior with deco patterned inlays, available leather, black ash trim and reconstructed wood.
The available panoramic sunroof is made of tinted and laminated glass which reduces 99.5% of UV radiation minimalizing glare. For 2023, due to popular demand, a new removable mesh sunshade has been added.
Standard features include, an 11.2” touchscreen with Google’s Android Automotive Service, 12.3” digital driver display, Apple Carplay and Android Auto, heated front seats, power driver and passenger seats, an 8-speaker audio system and front and rear park assist. There are packages available like the Plus Pack for $5,700 CAD/$4,200 USD. It includes features like a heat pump, Harman Kardon sound system, panoramic sunroof, heated steering wheel, heated rear seats and a wireless charger. Thanks to software changes, the heat pump is designed to now deliver range improvements by 10% in a wider range of temperatures.Performance Pack for $6,750 CAD/$5,500 USD is only available for the dual motor, ups the sportiness giving it a more responsive and dynamic drive with a performance software update. The upgrade for 2023 adds 68 horsepower and 15 lb-ft of torque.
The Polestar 2 Long Range Single Motor starts at $53,950 CAD/$48,400 USD and the Long Range Dual Motor $58,950 CAD/$51,900 USD.
With a DC fast charger can charge from 10-80% within 35 minutes and with a Level 2 charger, 8 hours for a full charge.
From 2022, Polestar plans to launch one new electric vehicle per year, starting with Polestar 3 – the company’s first electric performance SUV which is expected to debut in October 2022. Polestar 4 is expected to follow in 2023, a smaller electric performance SUV coupe.
