Grayston Burgess was born in Kent in 1932. He was one of the great pioneers of early music research. During the Second World War he was a chorister in the choir at Canterbury Cathedral. With the end of the war he began attending Cheltenham College, won a scholarship and began singing in the choir of King's College, Cambridge. In 1963 he formed the Purcell Consort of Voices. He sang with Thomas Binkley's "Studio der frühen Musik" and with Michael Morrow and John Beckett's "Musica Reservata" ensemble.
"Now Make We Merthe" is a 1964 album about English carols and early Christmas music.
