Plant Garlic in the Winter! 🥶 Greenhouse Effect with Recycled Plastic

Here’s why this will work ⬇️
A plant doesn’t know the difference between early November and late December.
As long as the soil is warm enough for several days and you can trench 3-4 inches deep, there is no reason why you can’t plant your garlic in December!
The one thing you do need to consider is the duration the plant needs to grow. If you want too long you may not have a long enough growing season in the spring/ summer for the plant to mature.
For us in southern PA, we typically plant in early November and harvest in mid-July.. with my later planting date I’ll likely have to wait until August to harvest but that’s really not a big deal!
This plastic is recycled from the insulation for our home build. I have several other ideas to reuse this plastic so stay tuned!

ABOUT US: We are Alex and Elaina, a couple in our 20s who are currently living on the 3-acre farm in southern Pennsylvania where Alex grew up. We have a garden, backyard chickens, and build or fix anything that we need to. We still work corporate day jobs, but are working to eventually leave the 9-5 lifestyle in favor of a self-built, debt-free, homestead on 6 acres nearby.
We upload a YouTube video every Saturday night at 7️⃣pm EST, and post daily on Instagram!
