Can you name it? The Koenigsegg CC001 was the very first prototype built by Christian von Koenigsegg in 1994. It was designed with the goal of surpassing the McLaren F1's 240 mph record. The car was hand-built directly from design models and tested as a functional rolling prototype. Originally silver, it was later repainted black after gaining the signature Dihedral Synchro-Helix doors. The prototype featured a removable targa-style roof that could be stored in the front trunk. Koenigsegg initially planned to use a 4.2L Audi V8, but the deal collapsed. A Motori Moderni flat-12 F1 engine was also considered but dropped after the supplier went bankrupt. The final running prototype used a supercharged 4.6L Ford Modular V8 with about 420 hp. Testing began in 1995 at Anderstorp Raceway with the car coded XP001. In total, three CC prototypes were produced between 1994 and 2000. These prototypes directly evolved into the first production model, the Koenigsegg CC8S. The CC001 introduced design cues, like the unique door system, that became Koenigsegg trademarks. It stands today as the foundation that launched Koenigsegg into a hypercar manufacturer.
