This is a Motormouth couple car comparison of the Audi Q3 and Volvo XC40. Bothe the Q3 and XC40 are in the popular small SUV space that has quickly become the fastest growing segment in the auto industry. The Audi Q3 has a 2.0L turbo charged 4 cylinder engine with an 8 speed automatic transmission. The base model engine has 184 horsepower and 221 lb-ft oft torque. The higher output engine has 228 horsepower and 258 lb-ft of torque. The Volvo also has a 2 Litre turbocharged 4 cylinder engine with an 8 speed automatic transmission but offers a little more horsepower than the Audi. The base engine T4 has 187 hp & 221 lb-ft of torque. The T5 engine has 248 hp & 258 lb-ft of torque. The handling of the Q3 is very sporty, agile, takes corners with ease and the turning radius is good. In the city, the cabin is fairly quiet, but on the highway it’s a little louder compared to its competition. The Volvo offers a smooth and refined ride, it has a quiet cabin and the seating position is higher allowing you to sit up and over the dash. Taller people may find that there is not enough headroom even in the lowed seating position. The Audi is longer and wider than the outgoing model providing more second row leg room and cargo space. It comes standard with LED headlights and taillights, heated exterior mirrors and 18 inch wheels. The two top trims come standard with 19” wheels, but 20” wheels are available for $800. There is also a Black Optics package available for $500, it comes with a high gloss black grille and window trim along with black roof rails and mirrors. If you are looking for a power liftgate, you can get it on the top two trims, it does not come standard on the base model. The Volvo on the other hand does come standard with a power liftgate, LED headlights and taillights, retractable rear view mirrors, 18 inch wheels, 19” wheels come standard on the top two trims and 20” are available for $1,475. The exterior styling of the Volvo is rugged with its two tone colour combination and a piano black high gloss grille.The Q3 comes with plenty of standard features including, an 8.8 inch touchscreen and a 10.25 inch digital instrument cluster. On the top trim, Audi offers a 10.1 inch touchscreen and a 12.3” digital instrument cluster. If you want wireless Apple Carplay, it comes standard on the top trim, but you have to buy the Navigation Package for $2,250 on the Progressive trim to get it. You also get the bigger screens with this package as well.
Heated front seats come standard on the Audi, but there is no option of heated rear seats or driver seat memory in the Q3. A heated steering wheel will cost you an extra $200 as well. Apple Carplay and Android Auto both come standard along with a leather wrapped steering wheel and a panoramic sunroof. The Audi also offers a Bang & Olufsen sound system on the top trim. The XC40 comes standard with a 9” touchscreen and a 12.3” instrument panel, heated front seats, driver seat memory, leather wrapped steering wheel, Apple Carplay and Android Auto. If you want a panoramic sunroof it is available on the base model but it will cost you $1,150, it comes standard on the top two trims. As for a heated steering wheel, you will need to purchase the Climate Package for $1,000; it also comes with heated rear seats and heated wiper blades. The Volvo offers a Harman Kardon 14 speaker sound system for $1,250 on all trims.
