Val Kilmer has died at age 65. The veteran American actor was best known for his dark, brooding acting style, and for his iconic roles in ‘Batman Forever’, ‘Tombstone’, ‘Top Gun’, and for his portrayal of late The Doors frontman, Jim Morrison, in ‘The Doors’.

Kilmer died Tuesday night in Los Angeles after battling pneumonia. He was surrounded by his family and friends, according to his daughter, Mercedes Kilmer.

In recent years, Kilmer has recovered from a 2014 throat cancer diagnosis, which required two tracheotomies.
