In the year 2013, September 13th was the date. This is a Friday. From her home on Clifton Road in DeKalb County, Georgia, USA, thirty-year-old Victoria Rickman dialed 911. Victoria placed the call at 2.30 in the morning:
“He tried to rape me again and I tried to ask him to stop and I shoot him. I just kept shooting and shooting and shooting and shooting. I shoot him all over. I didn’t want to hurt him, but he wouldn’t stop.”
Police would later learn that Victoria shoot Will Carter Jr., who was her boyfriend. Their relationship had been troubled, and there was much more to the story than that first 911 call.
One boy was born to Victoria Rickman, who was divorced. Will, who was thirty years old, was also a father. His daughter was eight years old. For a while, Will and Victoria got along great after meeting through mutual acquaintances. Both Will and Victoria worked in business, while Victoria specialized in marketing. However, after they became engaged and moved in together, their relationship took a different turn. Their fighting never stopped. There was a long history of violent and verbal abuse, as well as fabricated sexual assault allegations, threats to seek out temporary restraining orders that were never granted, and multiple 911 calls. They obviously weren't a good match for one other, yet even after splitting up, they couldn't seem to separate.
