The Honda L15 Was the Last Good Engine from Honda

The Honda L15, specifically the naturally aspirated variant, is a 1.5L economy engine used in the Honda Fit. It is a low stress, simply designed and reliable motor, albeit not as powerful or peppy as its larger K-series counterparts.
While the L15 went on to being turbocharged in the latest Accord, CR-V and Civic models, the old naturally aspirated engines deserve appreciation. They feature VTEC, with only a single overhead camshaft, a single timing chain without a tensioner, port injection and a direct drive oil pump. Water pumps are external, and everything is easy to access and cheap to replace.
The engine in this video was from a 2012 Honda Fit with 288,000km on it. Its mechanical condition is phenomenal for its mileage and age, with the exception that it was left open to the elements allowing crumbs to encase its caverns within.
