ZZ Top bassist Dusty Hill has died The bassist of the American rock band ZZ Top, Dusty Hill, has died at the age of 72, reports Deadline, citing a statement from the band. "Dusty Hill passed away in his sleep at his home in Houston, Texas ," said guitarist / vocalist Billy Gibbons and drummer Frank Beard. The cause of death was not specified.

It was revealed last week that Hill had suffered a thigh injury, so the band had to continue their US tour without him. “At Dusty's request, we decided not to stop the tour - the show must go on,” the band said, adding that the bassist on stage has been temporarily replaced by Elwood Francis, ZZ Top's guitar technician.Dusty Hill (real name - Joseph Michael Hill) was born in Dallas on May 12, 1949. He began his career in local bands, where he played along with his brother Rocky and Frank Byrd. In 1968, Rocky left the band due to creative differences, the other two moved to Houston, where they created ZZ Top with Gibbons. The composition of the group has not changed since the day of its foundation.

The debut album ZZ Top was released in 1971, but the band's breakthrough was the third disc, Tres Hombres, which came out two years later.

In total, ZZ Top has released 15 studio albums. They won the MTV Video Music Awards three times, and in 2004 the group was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
