Over a two week period, Ted Stevens Airport will become a staging post for 20 pilots volunteering their time and planes to help with the largest sporting event in Alaska: the Iditarod Dog Sled Race. Piloting a supply plane for the race is a risky job: The plane is often loaded with gasoline, flying over uninhabited mountains and with no guarantee of where it can land.
