Worth it ☺️

Anyone who’s preserved their own food before will tell you that it’s a lot of work! There’s no doubt about that, but it’s totally worth it to us.

We primarily grow our own food to live more sustainably and self-sufficiently. Growing our own food has brought us closer to nature and has helped us gain a huge appreciation for the food we put on the table.

Obviously there is an initial investment that goes into a canning set-up but you can use that set-up for years to come! Even the jars can be considered as an asset that you use over and over again.. and you can usually find them at thrift stores and garage sales!

As far as taking care of the plants - I sowed the seeds and did not tend to them other than weeding right around the base of the plants.

Cucumbers can be grown vertically so you need minimal space when growing but canning a large batch like this will require growing multiple plants.

ABOUT US: We are Alex and Elaina, a couple in our 20s who are currently living on the 3-acre farm in southern Pennsylvania where Alex grew up. We have a garden, backyard chickens, and build or fix anything that we need to. We still work corporate day jobs, but are working to eventually leave the 9-5 lifestyle in favor of a self-built, debt-free, homestead on 6 acres nearby.
