I already told you about the Jehan de Chaney ensemble in the video previous to this one and this is the second cd of the album “Medieval Music & Songs". In this second part the repertoire is focused on the spanish "Cantigas de Santa Maria" and the Codex Buranus. The interpretation, as I say in the precedent video, is simply amazing, in my opinion. About the ensemble, they were active from 1989 to 1994 and they have released four records.
What is most convincing in the proposal of the Jehan de Channey ensemble is its minimalism despite the high number of musicians. The sound obtained is fascinating and somewhat reminiscent of that of the Clemencic Consort, whose influence has been decisive from the 1970s to today for any musician who looks into the "abyss" of medieval music. In the part of the album dedicated to the Carmina Burana, in fact, the ensemble also performed the famous melody "In Taberna Quando Sumus" created by Clemencic in the 70s of the last century, perpetuating the historical error of considering it a medieval composition. Apart from this, I really love the sound of the Jehan de Channey ensemble and think their productions are very underrated.

Concerning the video: I used the Spanish manuscript MS M.429 of the XIIIth century.
