Based on the novel of the same name by I.S. Turgenev. The hero of the picture is a nobleman, a wealthy landowner Lavretsky. Having parted with his unfaithful wife, he returns to Russia from Paris. At home, he meets a poor girl, Lisa, and they fall madly in love. But the mother wants to marry Liza to a rich official, and Lavretsky is not so easy to get a divorce from his wife.
