Here's another really enjoyable and semi-unknown album. Although the vinyl pressing, dating back to 1977, was produced by the Arion label which still exists, it is not possible to purchase this work on their website.
A CD version has never been produced and not even the Spotify platform, now sadly more stocked with titles than the record labels themselves, has a digital copy. So here I am rushing in aid of this wonderful work with the hope of saving it from the oblivion to which it seemed destined.
Julien Skowron, musicologist and musician as well as professor, was part of the medieval folk musical group "Les Ménestriers" from 1969 to 1977. From 1977 to 1979 he was part of the "Florilegium Musicum of Paris" but it was with the ensemble La Maurache, founded in 1978, that I discovered him. I made these videos of La Maurache, of which Julian Skowron was director:

In this album Julien Skowron explores the sounds of the viella (medieval fiddle), one of the "prince" instruments of medieval jounglars and troubadours. The repertoire presented is very varied both in terms of centuries and countries of origin, an excellent choice that reminds us how the medieval Western world was more united and linked than it is now with useless and continuous national claims of useless traditions: today's traditions are yesterday's news! But let's not leave the topic and go back to our video: I decided to use some images of the Queen Mary's wonderful psalter. That Mary, yes the half-deranged daughter of Henry VIII who sadly became known by the nickname "Bloody Mary" due to her religious fanaticism. The manuscript, which is actually classified in the British Library as Royal MS 2 B.vii, is actually 14th century and is rightly considered one of the most extensively illustrated psalters ever produced in Western Europe.

At the moment the digitized manuscript is not available on the British Library website, which has been compromised for months due to a cyber attack.

PS: Just for the sake of culture, the first piece by the jounglar Pistoleta, simply titled "Sirventes", is actually called "Ar agues ieu mil marcs de fin argent".
