Saturnwood is the crystallization of lead glitter in the shape of a tree, when a zinc plate is immersed in a solution of lead salt.
This name comes from the alchemical name for lead.
A purified plate of galvanized tin is immersed in a solution consisting of lead acetate and water.
The surface is covered with small, dark gray crystals of lead with a metallic luster, fused together.

The Saturn tree is sometimes called the tree of Paracelsus, the alchemist and founder of pharmaceutical chemistry. When preparing one of his medicines by dissolving metallic lead in acetic acid, he wanted to add mercury as well, so he put pieces of zinc in the vessel. At that time, many chemical elements and even very common metals had not yet been really identified and it was believed that zinc contained a lot of mercury, which made it so fusible. Not having time to continue the experiment, Paracelsus left the vessel for a few days, and how much he was amazed when he saw shiny twigs of an unknown nature on the pieces of zinc. He thought that the mercury, having hardened, had come out of the zinc. Later the beautiful tree was named Saturnova after the alchemical name for lead.
