During the five-year period under the program for the Soviet airship developing inside of the labour collectives there were gathered the gigantic sum more 27 million Soviet rubles [$6,7 bln in 1930s currency course]. For its part, the Council of People's Commissars [the main the USSR's executive branch government] in the autumn of 1930 created a base for the experimental construction and operation of airships under the Civil Air Fleet (GVF) patronage. The name of it was 'Dirizhablestroi' [transl.: 'Airship-manufacturter']. And this structure was aimed first of all to organize and produce avangard airships for the Squadron named after Lenin. There were next scheduled seven debut Squadron's airship names: Lenin, Stalin , Osoaviakhim, Pravda, Staryi Bolshevik, Klim Voroshilov and Kolkhoznik in the GVF's plans. Unfortunatly, such grandious program was never executed. To accelerate the technical developing of the USSR in face of a West achievementins in airship field Stalin's government ordered to GVF in 1931 to begin the negotiations with Luftschiffbau Zeppelin. However that process had gone to impasse by reason of the Zeppelin's contract huge sum for collaboration with the USSR: 5 million German Reichsmarks. At the beginning of 1932, by Stalin's government there was launched the first plant inside Dirizhablestroi State's 'corporation' (it was situated on empty grounds near the Dolgoprudnaya railway station in closest Moscow's suburb). After USSR's government had offered to Umberto Nobile, the famous Italian polar explorer and airship designer, to head the USSR airships developing program he arrived in Moscow on january 1932. After negotiotin he agreed to manufacture during 5 years: 1 small semi-rigid airship, 3 semi-rigid airships with a volume of 19,000 cubic meters. m, as well as to launch several several rigid and all-metal dirigible projects. According to the results of work from 1932 to 1936, under the assistance of Nobile, there were in USSR five semi-rigid airships were designed and built: SSSR-V5, SSSR-V6, SSSR-V7 Chelyuskinets, SSSR-V7bis and SSSR-V8, as well as advanced design work for several rigid ships. ...In 1934 the Dirizhablestroy (headed by Umberto Nobile) for a future Squadron named after Lenin was manufactured only the SSSR-V6 Osoaviakhim semi-rigid dirigible with volume 18,500 cu. m... Year later, after the WWII begining, in 1940 the 'Dirizhablestroi' stopped its works with airships and redirected to the battle planes manufacturing... In 1941 Adolf Hitler begun war against USSR and Soviets answered on it with the Great Patriotic War with good aviation fleet. The Dirzhablestroi manufactured its next airship with name the 'Pobeda' [transl.: the 'Victory'] -- volume 5000 cu. m -- in 1943 (the year when the allies finally opened a second front, which accelerated the defeat of fascism) which worked in front and after V-Day -- during 4 years. ..
