Australia and Antarctica are tied together intimately. They've been joined together for over a billion years and in that time, many events occurred in both continents that would lead to vast amounts of mineral enrichment. These events would sometimes occur in isolated parts of the continents, but more often then not, it would effect both Australia and Antarctica together when they occurred. Among many of these events, were the ones that created the entire eastern region of Australia, from Northern queensland all the way down south of Victoria.

The create of this landmass, which existed originally as a deep ocean, occurred episodically, and it was thrust up from ocean piece by piece as orogeny after orogeny occurred here. Mountain ranges were built and eroded through time, and these events are the reason for the vast mineral riches that exist from Queensland down south to Victoria where the gold is at it's most abundant. This is important, because it was Victoria that is most closely linked to Antarctica compared to the other two states. And Victoria is the state that is known for being one of the richest goldfields on the planet, with some of the most sizeable and massive golden nuggets ever found on the planet.

Places such as Ballarat, Bendigo, Castlemaine, Moliagul, and many other towns hosted incredibly large nuggets, some were so large they couldn't be physically carried by one or two men, and needed horsepower to move them from place to place, where the gigantic nugget would then be brought to a place that would attempt to cut and section these behemoth golden nuggets.

The same tectonic events that occurred in Victoria, though, also occurred in Antarctica, and even the rock types that led to the vast gold enrichment of Victoria was the same in Antarctica, that being Cambrian mafic basaltic volcanics, which are now thought to be the source rock for the incredible gold enrichment that we found in the notorious golden triangle in Victoria.

So this is the story of how Antarctica and Victoria are related in more ways than one, and how they share similarities to the point of their goldfields more than likely being similar.
