I’m making 1 minute videos about all the elements on the periodic table.
Today’s episode is about Lithium.
Lithium’s atomic number is 3, and it’s a soft, silver colored, alkali metal which you can cut with a butter knife.
It’s the lightest metal and it’s also the least dense solid element which means it can float on water.
But it’s so reactive that you can’t even leave it in the air. That’s why they keep pure Lithium in a vacuum or in oil.
More than 75% of the world’s reserves are located in the Lithium triangle which are the countries Chile, Bolivia, and Argentina in South America.
Which btw I’m also making 1-minute videos about all the countries.
Lithium isn’t particularly abundant on our planet, but based on research, In terms of reserves, you don’t need to worry about any shortages.
So what’s Lithium used for?
More than 50% of the usage is for lithium ion batteries, like in your phone and electric cars.
About 20% is for making ceramics. And then Lithium is also used for making lubricating grease.
They also use Lithium to make pills that treat bipolar disorders and cases of manic depression.
