Smartest Picture In The World Series. Marie Sklodowska Curie.

You know what I’m doing here, this is the smartest picture in the world and at this rate it’s probably going to be the smartest picture forever. That’s Einstein right here and I’m making videos about all these people.
Let’s go to the only person in this picture that has won two nobel prizes, Marie Sklodowska Curie.
Even to this day, she is the only person that won two nobel prizes in scientific fields, one in Physics in 1903 for research on radioactivity, which btw is a word she came up with.
And one in Chemistry in 1911 for her discovery of the elements polonium named after Poland and radium.
She was born in Poland and her family was poor, when she was 7 she lost her sister due to an illness and when she was 10 she lost her mother.
Of course she was very smart, and at the age of 24 she moved to Paris to continue her scientific studies, got a physics degree at 26, and a math degree at 27.
At first she was investigating the magnetic properties of various steels, and she was looking for a lab to do her studies. This is where Pierre Curie enters the picture; he is also into science and guess what, he has lab space.
After some time Pierre asked her to marry him, and she said noh I gotta go back to Poland. She did go back to Poland but they didn’t let her join the university because she was a woman.
I’m guessing at this point she was probably like oh God what have I done, so she went back to Paris and shortly after married Pierre Curie.
Ok so now she’s 29, Rontgen just discovered X-rays, and Henri Becquerel found that Uranium salts give off rays, he has no idea how this is happening to which Marie responded, I GOT YOU.
She found out that it’s coming from the atom itself and not the Molecule or some interaction as Henri was thinking. So this means that the an atom can be divisible and unstable.
fun fact, she used a device called an electrometer that was invented by Pierre Curie. The device could measure electrical charge, Uranium would make the air around it conduct electricity.
During their studies they would look at two minerals that supposedly contained Uranium, Pitchblende and Torbernite. Now the thing that was really odd was that pitchblende was 4 times more active as Uranium. But how does that make sense? The only thing that would explain it, is that there are other more radioactive elements within Pitchblende.
When she was 31, they published their papers on radioactivity, polonium and radium.
5 years later, she’s 36, and they’re giving out a nobel prize for the research on Radioactivity, which might I remind you is a word Marie came up with and majority of the work was done by her but they wanted to give the prize to Bequerel and Pierre, but thankfully Pierre heard about this and made them include Marie. Yeah crazy times back then, she was the first woman to receive a nobel prize.
They could have made a lot of money if they had patented the radium isolation process, but for the advancement of science they didn’t do it.
One issue if it still hasn’t dawned on you, all this stuff is radioactive, but they didn’t really know the harmful effects of radiation.
Marie Curie’s belongings, papers and cookbooks are so radioactive that you can’t even read them today without the proper protective equipment, and she lost her life because of radiation.
So radium glows, and as you would guess, companies were making some stuff out of it. You’re not gonna like what they were making with it. Sadly here is a list and it gets worst as I go on:
Board Games, baby preventers I guess I understand the marketing aspect of the glow here, Puff Puffs like it wasn’t bad enough already, makeup, toothpaste, butter, chocolates yum, and of course suppositories to shove up your.
But the thing is it took them over 2 decades to figure out this stuff was slowly unlifing them, Marie Curie was really saddened by this fact and she spent a lot of time trying to find useful things to do with Radium. Which of course one of the major ones today is cancer treatment.
And then when Marie was 39, Pierre Curie had a street accident where a
