WBO Heavyweight Champion Ray “Merciless” Mercer (17-0) defended his title against undefeated challenger Tommy “The Duke” Morrison (28-0) in a high-stakes showdown billed as the “Test of Courage.” Both fighters were Olympic gold medalists — Mercer in 1988, and Morrison a standout amateur known for his explosive power.
The turning point came early in Round 5, when Mercer trapped Morrison in the corner and unleashed a brutal 15-punch barrage. Morrison, pinned against the ropes with no defense, absorbed every shot until referee Tony Perez finally stopped the fight 28 seconds into the round.
