This is a Motormouth couple car review of the all-new 2022 BMW i4 all-electric sedan. Our test model, the i4 edrive 40 is a RWD model with a rear-mounted motor producing 335 horsepower and 317 lb-ft of torque. It has an 81 kWh battery with 484 km/301 miles of EV range. The AWD model, the i4 M40 with dual electric motors producing 536 horsepower and 586 lb-ft of torque has 434 km/270 miles of EV range.The i4 has a long wheelbase, short overhangs, a flowing roofline, a large kidney grille design and satin aluminum exterior trim with grey accents and 18” wheels. Our test model in Alpine White has some added features like the M Sport Package to give it a sportier look with black exterior accents, 19” wheels and an M Sport steering wheel. The cabin of the BMW i4 is simplistic with a modern and clean interior with standard high gloss black trim, our test model has aluminum, a leatherette interior, Vernasca leather is available. The i4 has a standard BMW curved display with a 12.3” digital driver display and a 14.9” information display is a show-stopper. The multi-input iDrive 8 system is operated by voice commands, touchscreen and the iDrive touchpad controller. Other standard features include, Apple Carplay and Android Auto, a moonroof and a power liftgate. TheBMW i4 comes with an 11 kW on-board charger and with a Level 2 charger it can reach a full charge within 9.5 hours. With a 150 kW DC Fast Charger, you can charge 100 km/62 miles in 7 minutes and about 30 minutes to charge the i4 from 10 to 80%. In Canada, the i4 eDrive 40 now qualifies for the Federal EV rebate of $5,000 with the new changes to the program. All electric vehicles with a base price of $55,000 CAD and maximum price with options of $65,000 CAD are eligible. Provincial rebates are available as well in participating provinces. In the US, the i4 qualifies for a tax credit up to $7,500. The i4 eDrive40 starts at $54,990 CAD/$55,400 USD and i4 M50 $72,990 CAD/$65,900 USD. Price as tested, $71,890 CAD.
