Tonga, located in the Pacific Ocean, was struck by a 7.1-magnitude earthquake on March 30, 2025. The United States Geological Survey (USGS) reported that the earthquake occurred 90 km southeast of Pangai at a depth of 10 km. Tsunami warnings were issued, and authorities urged coastal residents to move to higher ground. The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center warned that dangerous waves could form due to the earthquake.Following the main quake, a 6.1-magnitude aftershock was recorded in the region.
