On August 5, 2025, a devastating landslide and flash flood struck the village of Dharali and surrounding areas in the Uttarkashi district of Uttarakhand, India, following a sudden and intense downpour. Rivers in the Kheer Gad basin overflowed, destroying dozens of homes and buildings. At least four people lost their lives, and more than 50 remain missing. The military, NDRF, and other response teams were deployed to the region. The area along the Gangotri pilgrimage route was completely cut off. This disaster, unfolding in the heart of the monsoon season, once again highlighted the severe risks facing the region.
