The pressure is building on U.S. President Joe Biden — sidelined by a COVID-19 diagnosis — to drop out of the running for the presidency. Biden has been steadfast in saying he is strong and not going to quit, but political support and wealthy donors are backing away. As Eric Sorensen reports, close friends who love Biden are telling him he can’t win.

While Democrats may soon lose their leader, Republicans are backing former president Donald Trump. He is set to rally the party at its national convention in Milwaukee, where he officially accepts the party’s nomination. Jackson Proskow has more.

Two Canadians have now died after a Listeria outbreak in some plant-based beverages and at least nine people have been hospitalized. American comedian and actor Bob Newhart died in Los Angeles on Thursday at the age of 94, his publicist said. With a style all his own and an ability to make even one-sided conversations hilarious, those who worked with Newhart say it was hard to explain how important he was to every comedian and comedy writer who came after him.
