An unipolar motor is a type of direct current electric machines containing a conducting disk, a permanent magnetic field parallel to the disk rotation axis and a single current collector. The unipolar motor design is simple and allows you to get high power.

The unipolar motor is driven by the Lorentz force. The Lorentz force is proportional to the electric current and the magnetic field strength. The Lorentz force acts on the electrons in the disk, which is the vector product of the magnetic field strength and the speed of the electron moving together with the conductor as a result of disk rotation.

For the unipolar motor experiment at home you can use an alkaline battery, a copper wire with the ends stripped of insulation and four pairs of neodymium magnets connected in pairs. Two magnets can be attached to both poles of the battery.

To build a unipolar motor you will need the following materials:

Copper wire
Battery
Neodymium magnets
Pliers
Marker
