How to Navigate Europe’s Schengen Zone

If you are hoping to travel through Europe for more than 90 days, you will need to navigate the Schengen Zone. The Schengen Zone is 27 countries where Americans can stay 90 days out of every 180 days. Croatia was recently added, and Bulgaria and Romania are expected to join in the near future. You can find more information on the Schengen Zone here: https://bit.ly/SchengenIL. Warren and Julie have been navigating the Schengen Zone, staying in Europe full-time since 2021. Montenegro is one of Warren and Julie’s favorite countries outside the Schengen Zone. They purchased a small home there to use as a base outside the Schengen countries, in the beautiful UNESCO heritage old town of Kotor. In this episode, Warren and Julie give you a little tour of Kotor, where they spend a couple of months every year. They also share some cost of living figures, which is about half of what you’d need in Orlando, Florida. You’ll also hear of other options to spend time outside the Schengen Zone, besides Montenegro, including Bosnia, Albania, and Serbia, where Warren and Julie are pretty bullish on. In Novi Sad, Serbia, for just under $2,500, you can maintain the same standard of life that you can have with $6,000 in Orlando, Florida. As Warren says, “the restaurants are great, the people are fantastic, and it’s very safe.” Just because you leave the Schengen Zone as an American every 90 days doesn’t mean that has to be a negative experience, and it can open up a wonderful opportunity to explore some new places.
