For his family, the sudden death of Douglas Eustache — a residential school survivor — remains shrouded in mystery. Despite initial claims by the RCMP in Kamloops, B.C. that no foul play was involved, relatives and neighbours say there are too many unanswered questions.

As the coroner's investigation moves into 2025, some say this case highlights ongoing challenges within the justice system for indigenous communities.
