Why do you guys glorify athletes? You know they don’t bring any benefits to society right? We should be focusing on more important things like cultivating Wisdom.


And then you do understand that Knowledge and True Belief are separate things right? Like I know this microphone exists, but I don’t know if the State of Ohio exists, I’ve never been there and I’ve never seen it. I do believe it exists though, I just don’t know it for certain.


Like I think honey is the sweetest thing, but if I lived somewhere that honey never existed I would think apples are the sweetest substance and that’s just not true. That’s why knowledge and the truth are two different things.


Welcome back to my famous philosophers series. Everything you just heard me say were the beliefs of Xenophenes. A pre-socratic philosopher from 500 BC, more than 2500 years ago.


He was also heavily against the mythological so-called Gods, and he was probably one of the first people who was a monotheist, which means he believed in one true all-powerful God, like most religions nowadays.


He would also say that he doesn’t understand why humanity insists that the Gods they make would look like them, he said if horses and cows could think and draw, they would probably draw their Gods as horses and cows as well.


So he had some key concepts about this one True God, he would say it does not resemble human form, it is beyond human morality, and it cannot be born or pass away.
