This interesting performance dates back to 1964. My passion for researching musicians and pioneering musical recordings concerning early music led me to find this vinyl only recently and I fell in love with it, especially with the part concerning the music of troubadours and trouvères . The voice on this record is by the French baritone Louis-Jacques Rondeleux, born on October 24, 1923 and died on November 2, 2000.
After a troubled and varied career of studies Rondeleux decided to try an ecclesiastical career. He therefore entered the Major Seminary of Paris from 1941 to 1944 when he was drafted for a year of military service from December 1944 to August 1945. At the end of the Second World War he began his novitiate with the Dominican friars which lasted only 9 months, after which he gave up in the early 1950s he decided to become a professional singer. During the 1950s and 1960s he explored the repertoires of early music, from medieval music studying and performing troubador and trouvères songs to baroque music.
He also devoted himself to the creation of contemporary music.
Unfortunately I could not find much information about the musicians Roger Lepauw and Serge Depannemacke.
The repertoire presented in this record is divided into two parts: in the first there are ten songs extracted from the Cantigas de Santa Maria and are sung by José-Luis Ochoa, a tenor who has collaborated with many ensembles including the famous Atrium Musica of Paniagua; the second part deals with a fairly classic repertoire of troubadours.
