A classic Final Four showdown between two of the top teams in the state saw Berlin Hiland erase a late deficit to defeat Tiffin Calvert in extras, advancing to the Division IV State Championship with a 4-1 victory in 8 innings.

Sophomore starter Blake Coleman was incredible from the hill, allowing the state #3 Senecas (30-3) defense to make plays behind him throughout the night. Playing under the lights at Akron's Canal Park, Coleman would pitch 7 innings without allowing an earned run, giving up 6 hits and 0 walks while striking out 3 hitters.

Calvert would lead for most of the game taking a 1-0 advantage in the 2nd inning on an RBI sacrifice fly from the bat Harrison Shultz. They would strand 8 runners on base, however, failing to capitalize on multiple bases-loaded situations.

The tandem of Hawks starter Nolan Yoder, who allowed 1 run on 3 hits over 5 innings, and Isaak Yoder, who struck out 5 in 3 scoreless frames, would hold the Senecas powerful offense to just 5 hits. Offensively, #1 Hiland (29-1) also struggled to score, finding themselves trailing 1-0 heading into the 7th inning after crushing their opponents 71-3 during their tournament run.

A strange dropped ball to start the frame would allow the Hawks a runner, who moved into scoring position with freshman Grady Monigold at the dish. The youngster delivered a clutch 2-out RBI hit to bring home the tying run which would extend the game after Calvert came up empty with the bases juiced in the bottom of the inning.

Riding a spark of momentum, the Hawks would crank out 3 runs on 3 hits in the 8th inning before setting down Calvert in order to complete the come-from-behind victory. Hiland will now move on to the D4 State Championship to face #5 Russia for the title.

Calvert wraps up their season with 30 wins and will graduate seniors Mason Johnson and Nick Palm.
