The Oberoi Udaivilas is a 5-star luxury hotel that opened in 2002.

The hotel was built on the nearly 200-year-old hunting grounds of the Maharana of Mewar on the famous Lake Pichola in Udaipur, Rajasthan, India. The hotel sits on over 30 acres, with about 40% of the total area designated as a wildlife sanctuary.

The hotel's architecture references the traditional Rajasthani palaces of the Mewari Kingdom, which ruled the region 300 years ago, with details such as tiled outdoor corridors, stone pavilions, arched entrances and fountains. You might spot a peacock as you stroll through the extensive gardens, designed by Asia-based designer Bill Bensley. The gardens offer views of some of the city's famous historical sites from several vantage points.

The hotel is part of the Oberoi Group, which was founded in 1934 and currently owns and operates 32 luxury hotels and two river cruise ships in seven countries, including India, Egypt and Morocco. Like many Oberoi properties, Udaivilas makes a grand first impression. It has 37 domes, and the lobby has one of the largest in Rajasthan, painted with 18-carat gold leaf. The nearby Candle Room has a dome decorated with 175,000 traditional mirrors in Tikri, a local style. It glows every night when staff light dozens of candles placed on the tables below.

The décor of the 87 guest rooms features handcrafted furniture and delicate arched details that mimic those found on the premises. All fabrics are natural (cotton, silk, linen) and tastefully executed with vibrant Rajasthani colors and patterns.

The hotel has two restaurants: the main dining room, Suryamahal, serves international cuisine, and the Indian specialty restaurant, Udaimahal, serves Rajasthani and North Indian dishes. Every night, guests dine to the sound of live Rajasthani music and dance beneath the blue domes at midnight.
