The E.U.R. or EUR (Esposizione Universale di Roma) is an urban and architectural complex in Rome, Italy. It is designed in rationalist style and built to host the 1942 Universal Exhibition. The war, however, prevented its opening, and the EUR became an important urban center with iconic buildings such as the Palazzo della Civiltà Italiana. The complex was completed in the following decades, modifying and expanding the original project. It hosts some examples of monumental architecture, which coexist with modern buildings constructed in the following decades, with most of the buildings being owned by the state-owned company of the same name. The video shows that tourists who are tired of ruins and crowds can walk though the EUR during weekends and encounter only a few pedestrians during several hours of walking.
The Palazzo Sturzo is a building in Rome, located in the EUR district, on Piazzale Luigi Sturzo. Designed by architect Saverio Muratori, it was built between 1955 and 1958. Until 1992, together with Palazzo Cenci-Bolognetti in Piazza del Gesù, it hosted the Christian Democracy party's headquarters.
The Palazzo della Civiltà Italiana, also known as the Palazzo della Civiltà del Lavoro and the Colosseo Quadrato, is a monumental building located in Rome in the modern EUR district. Conceived in 1936 and designed in 1937, its construction began in July 1938 and it was inaugurated, although incomplete, in 1940; the works were interrupted in 1943 and then completed in the post-war period. The building is an example of Italian Rationalism and fascist architecture with neoclassical design. The design of the building was inspired by the Colosseum with rows of arches.
The Palazzo degli Uffici is a building in Rome, located in the EUR district. Outside the Palazzo is the statue once titled "Genius of Fascism" and later renamed Genius of Sport with the addition of sport gloves to the hands.
The Palazzo dei Ricevimenti e dei Congressi, more informally known as Palazzo dei Congressi, is a building in Rome located in the EUR district. It was designed by Adalberto Libera, the construction started in 1938 and was completed in 1954. The building is used for various conferences and exhibitions.
