Eric Sevareid Retires from CBS News after 38 Years - CBS Evening News - November 30, 1977
One of Edward R. 'Murrow's Boys' and among the outstanding journalists of the twentieth century, Sevareid delivers his farewell commentary on the CBS Evening News. Eric Sevareid had 'scooped the world' with the Fall of Paris in 1940, reported on The Battle of Britain, and joined Walter Cronkite with a commentary on the night of the assassination of JFK in 1962. During World War II he tells us: 'We were like a young band of brothers in those early radio days' and calls Murrow 'the man who invented me.' Mr. Sevareid later passed away on July 9, 1992 at the age of 79.
