In 2004, Verónica Panarello met Davide Stival in Santa Croce, Camerina, Italy, who had a complicated relationship due to their mother's abusive behavior. They had their first child, Loris Andrea, born in 2006. They married in 2007 and welcomed their second son, Diego, in 2010. On November 29, 2014, Veronica found the lifeless body of her son in a ditch next to an old mill. Initially skeptical, she claimed she left her son early and the event was not recorded. However, further interrogations led to an altering of her story. The autopsy results showed that Loris died from suffocation caused by an electrical cable.
