It's finally time to take the chicks out to their permanent home! After week 4, not much changed in taking care of the little ones as they grew up. However, by the start of week 6, it was clear they were ready to escape the brooder - running, jumping, and flying around. Without a top on the brooder, they took any chance they could to hop up on the side! Several nights ahead of their permanent move, we brought them out to peck around in the yard to get them acquainted with the outdoors, and get them some fresh air.

This was a fun day at the farm. The weather this spring has been quite crazy here in southern PA, with mid-May frosts right next to 90 degree heat. The day we took the chicks out was May 26th, and there was actually still a couple nights in the low 40s during that week. The flock huddled together and stuck it out!

ABOUT US: We are Alex and Elaina, a couple in our 20s who are currently living on the 3-acre farm in southern Pennsylvania where Alex grew up. We have a garden, backyard chickens, and build or fix anything that we need to.
