Welcome back to another episode of the smartest picture in the world series,
Today we’re going to talk about this guy, a lot of people commented on my previous videos saying he looks kinda sus
picious his name is Peter Debye and and you should know Albert Einstein thought he was suspicious as well, when Peter came to the US Einstein wrote a letter trying to prevent him from getting a job at Cornell University, saying that he’s working for the Germans.
So his case is similar to Heisenberg, we don’t really know whether he was working for hitler or not.
He was the director of the physics department of a very famous university under Hitler but in 1939 he came to the US and started teaching at Cornell. At that time everyone thought he did this because he was opposing the germans.
But there ARE reports that he helped jewish scientists escape Germany, and there are even stories of how he might have been helping in the war against hitler.
My theory for most of these scientists is that they’re apolitical. I mean his daughter was in Berlin when he was in the US, so I think these people played both sides. They probably just wanted to focus on science but being an opportunist is still deplorable in my opinion.
He was born in the Netherlands and he won a Nobel prize in chemistry in 1936 because of his research which made it possible to define the structure of molecules using X-rays.
Like and follow for non-useless content.
