When babies are born, their skull bones are soft and not fully fused 🧠👶. This helps during birth and also allows the brain to grow. Because the skull is flexible, even a small force (pressure = force/area) applied for a long time—like sleeping in one position—can change the shape of the head. This is called positional molding (plagiocephaly).

It’s all about physics and biology working together ⚖️✨. Pressure reshapes the soft bones (like clay under force), while the brain keeps growing inside. Over time, as the bones harden (ossify), the shape becomes fixed. Doctors sometimes suggest changing sleeping positions or using helmets 🪖 to guide growth, which uses the same principle: controlled pressure → controlled shape.
