This wonderful 1974 album directed by Thomas Binkley brings together many of the most beautiful musical parts of the very famous Add ms 29987, also known as the "London Manuscript". This manuscript contains many songs, all Italian, from the 14th to the 16th century. The beauty of these melodies has made them famous up to the present day: even non-experts know pieces such as the "Lamento di Tristano", the "Salterelli", the Istampitte "Isabella" and "Principio di Virtù", all performed by countless ensembles in countless versions. Here is one of the most interesting performances, filled with improvisations from unrivaled musicians including Paul O'Dette, Thomas Binkley and Sterling Jones. The album is exclusively instrumental.
Concerning the video: it took me a long time, but I searched the London manuscript for the sheet music of the pieces performed and synchronized them with the music. Even though it was impossible to match the performances to the images note by note, I find the result really exciting!
