Most entrepreneurs start a podcast because they want NEW visibility. And it breaks my heart because they’re pouring HOURS into their podcast every month, but as time goes on, they gain little to no NEW visibility for their business. 💔 YouTube = get found by new people because of it’s amazing search algorithms Podcast = nurture the audience you have already have built DISCLAIMER: There are exceptions & nuances, but in general, these are how the platforms work. “But Podcasts do gain visibility!” Yes, but it requires a strategy that includes guest interviews with CONTINUOUS new episodes, and repurposing onto other platforms (like a blog) in order to get seen. The podcast platforms in and of themselves doesn’t gain (very many) views if you stop posting. “But YouTube takes way more time!” It’s the difference of up-front vs. continuous effort. Here’s what I mean: YouTube = more time to learn video AND audio but after upload, videos get seen WITHIN the platform for years to come Podcast = less time to learn audio, but you have to ALWAYS be putting out more episodes AND spend time coordinating with new guests for visibility YouTube can be done on YOUR own time & in your own way. And allows you to say “I need a break for 6 months” and still gain visibility (and have that visibility turn into sales. For example, last year in 2024, I took SIX MONTHS off from posting and still gained over 1,000,000 views from YouTube. ;) So if your goal is to gain MORE visibility (views from NEW people) for your business, it’s a lot easier to gain that new visibility on YouTube. Podcasts generally nurture your warm audience, and if they do reach a new audience, it REQUIRES you to continually put out new episodes.
