The Mornington Peninsula hosts a lithology similar to Ballarat and Bendigo. It is the only place in Melbourne where you will find the Castlemaine group outcropping. This lead to three gold rushes since its initial discovery in 1851. Today these gold rushes have largely been forgotten about, so this video will bring it back to the forefront and explain how and why gold exists in this region of Melbourne.
