Making and Testing a Spaghetti Bridge!

Who says spaghetti can’t hold up under pressure? 🍝💪 In this video, I’ll demonstrate how a clever truss design, combined with a little glue, can create a surprisingly strong bridge out of this seemingly fragile material. Watch as I build the bridge step by step, and then put it to the test to see just how much weight it can withstand! Using Bucatini No. 6 pasta, this 90cm (2'-11.5') bridge weighs in at about 1100 grams (2.4 pounds). Check out the design sheet linked below for all the details! After load testing the bridge, I noticed that the top chord on the end of the bridge is the weakest link in the bridge. Adding the tie beams as shown in the PDFs will increase the capacity by bracing the top chord from buckling under compression. As seen in the PDF files, I have shown some members with dashed lines. After load testing the bridge, I noticed that the top chord on the end of the bridge is the weakest link in the bridge. Adding the tie beams as shown in the PDFs will increase the capacity by bracing the top chord from buckling under compression.
