The Legendary Muscle 1972 Buick Riviera

If you could cruise down the boulevard in a 1972 Buick Riviera, what color would you paint this rolling piece of American excess? The ‘72 model was the final year of the legendary "boat-tail" Riviera, a design inspired by the C2 Corvette Sting Ray. Under the hood, you got a monstrous 7.5L V8, pumping out 455 lb-ft of torque—enough to spin the rear tires into a smoky oblivion. Buick even offered Max Trac, an early traction control system, because this beast had a habit of overwhelming the pavement.
The Riviera wasn’t just about power—it was about presence. That fastback-style rear end was controversial when new, but now it’s pure retro-futuristic gold. One rare factory option? A sunroof—almost unheard of in American muscle-lux cars of the era. Despite its size, it had surprising aerodynamics, making it a sleeper on the highway. Even today, it’s a head-turner at car shows, especially when slammed on air suspension.
