Learn under 1 Minute! Diamonds Part 1/3 #shorts

Today’s episode is about Diamonds. The word Diamond is from the Greek word Adamas meaning unconquerable or invincible.
Diamonds are the hardest natural substance on earth, and they also have the highest thermal conductivity.
They are made from carbons just like graphite. You know the thing that pencils are made of.
The main difference is that Diamonds are in a crystal molecular structure while graphite is sheets of carbon on top of each other.
The unit of measurement for diamonds is Carats and basically each carat is 200 milligrams. It’s called carats because in ancient times before there were any scales, merchants would use seeds from a tree called carob. They believed all the seeds from this tree were the same size and weight, which is not correct by any means. But there weren’t really any other choices back then.
Be careful not to confuse this with Karats for Gold, because that is just a measurement of purity. 24 Karat gold is 100% gold and 12 Karat gold is 50% gold and so on.
