“La Convivencia” is the term used to describe the period in Spanish history between 711 and 1492. Muslims, Christians, and Jews lived in peace, and cultural ideas were exchanged with tolerance and respect. This is the description on the website of this excellent French ensemble directed by Friederike Schulz and Bernard Revel.

In 1988, they premiered Adam de la Halle's Le Jeu de Robin et Marion at the Montpellier Festival. Following this success, the Ensemble obtained its first artistic residency at the Caunes Minervois Abbey in the Aude department.
Based in Strasbourg since 1992, the Ensemble Convivencia has produced a string of premieres such as La Farce de Maistre Pathelin, Le Roman de Renart, La Nef des Fous, Le Capitaine Fracasse, and La Bella Franceschina, while also giving numerous concerts in Europe, the United States, and South America.
In 2004, Convivencia received the Grand Jury Prize from the Alsace Foundation, the institution's most prestigious distinction. Since then, the ensemble has developed numerous musical and theatrical productions, notably centered around the Italian Carnival and the Commedia dell'Arte. These include The Songs of the Carnival of Florence, Between West and East, Songs of Love and Peace, The Song of Illustrious Women, and In Praise of Folly. Their repertoire of traditional and Celtic music has allowed them to participate in major festivals.
For the past ten years, Convivencia has organized a Summer Academy, Les Arts à travers Chants, in the Montagne Noire region of Aude, where young musicians are trained in the performing arts. Following this academy, the ensemble organizes the Music Festival of the same name.
Friederike Schulz and Bernard Revel also lead annual masterclasses and workshops on the music and masked performances of the Commedia dell'Arte.

The Ensemble Convivencia has numerous recordings to its credit. Their music from the CD Troubadours was chosen for Ridley Scott's film Kingdom of Heaven, notably featuring the song “Chansoneta farai vencut” performed by Friederike Schulz, which was a great success and this is precisely the album that I present to you with this video.
The atmospheres are wonderful and the interpretations of this late-troubadour repertoire are, in my opinion, very philologically reliable.
About the video: I used the wonderful manuscript of the 15th century Hours of Charles the Noble, King of Navarre which with its wonderful groutesques with musical instruments fits perfectly with the atmosphere created by the ensemble Convivencia.
