My research aimed at the pioneers of early music continues, i.e. those who were among the first to revive the ancient musical sources that have come down to us directly from medieval manuscripts. This time I will introduce you to Safford Cape, a wonderful director and musicologist born in 1906.
Born in Colorado, he moved to Belgium already in 1925 to study music and composition and at the end of his studies he founded the ensemble Pro musica antiqua of Brussels with which he played the medieval and Renaissance repertoire throughout Europe.
The work presented here concerns Provençal and French motets and songs from the 13th century. There are works by troubadours and trouvères and finally two melodies from the Notre-Dame school.
