The stage was a court of law instead of a concert hall, but pop star Britney Spears still managed a jaw-dropping performance last Thursday. She sensationally told a judge her life had been destroyed by her father. It’s an ordeal that began 13 years ago when a highly controversial legal order effectively gave Jamie Spears full control over his daughter. The so-called conservatorship meant he decided everything Britney did and didn’t do, from when she worked to how she spent her money; what she ate and who she talked to. As one of her legal conservators, he even determined she wasn’t allowed to have more children. But now the 39-year-old singer has had enough and is fighting to break free.
