The capital of the Rajasthan State, a.k.a The Pink City, was one of the most impressive places we’ve visited in India! There was so much to see and do in Jaipur that we had to plan our days well ahead to be able to visit all those places. Having a driver at all times was also helpful in avoiding the scorching hot July weather. To tackle such a busy first day, we started with a delicious breakfast and headed out for the Jaipur City Palace. What an impressive superstructure composed of palaces, museums, shops, galleries, and much more. We were really amazed at the Palace’s incredible history and amazing architecture. Right next door was another awe-inspiring place - the astronomical observatory and clock Jantar Mantar. Looking to escape the midday heat wave, we visited the Albert Hall Museum, the oldest museum in the whole of Rajasthan. The museum holds artifacts such as paintings, jewelry, carpets, ivory, stone, metal sculptures, and works in crystal, but their main attraction is an Egyptian mummy. By the time we were done with the Alber Hall Museum, we were so hungry and exhausted that McDonald’s felt like the safest choice. Even though fast food is never our first choice, at that moment, we needed something quick and easy to replenish our strength. Our next stop was Amber Fort - another of Jaipur’s enormous Palaces with out-of-this-world design and architecture. So many nooks and crannies and a person in all of them waiting for a selfie. 😀 After over 2 hours of exploring the Amber Palace, we were ready to call it a day. On the way to our hotel, we took a glimpse at the Jal Mahal palace, which was completely surrounded by water. The next morning, our driver took us to Jaighar Fort, where we saw the world’s largest cannon and the 35km worth of waterways built in the past to capture water for both people and animals. All those structures were beyond impressive, but we were ready to do some shopping as well, so the Jaipur market, across from the Hawa Mahal, was next in line. Hawa Mahal is a unique palace in Jaipur, India, known for its distinct honeycomb-like structure and numerous small windows that allow for air to circulate, keeping the palace cool. It was built in 1799 by Maharaja Sawai Pratap Singh as a place for royal ladies to observe street festivals without being seen by the public. Today, it stands as a stunning example of Rajput architecture and attracts visitors from all over the world. From handicrafts to gadgets, food to clothes, textiles, shoes, and jewelry - there was little we didn’t find at the market. We did a little shopping as well and, of course, bargained to get the best prices. Hello from Jaipur, Guys!
