Ginger Harvest 🫚 Traditional Ginger Candy Chicken Masala and Juice from My Village Kitchen

It’s ginger harvest season and in today’s video, I turn fresh ginger into sweet delights, refreshing drinks, and a rich, flavorful chicken masala curry — all prepared with local ingredients and traditional Sri Lankan cooking. From the garden to the kitchen, every step is filled with warmth, spice, and the spirit of village life. ➡️ My cousin brother, podi malli, is known for his green thumb, and his ginger plants are thriving under the golden sun, surrounded by tall coconut trees and banana bunches. It’s a promising harvest, and I’m sure it will bring him both joy and profit. At home, I washed and pounded the ginger, then cooked it with sugar, watermelon, and a pinch of salt to make Inguru Dosi, our traditional ginger candy. Once it reached the right texture, I spread it on a tray and cut it into small pieces. This sweet is a favorite for tea time and a cherished treat in our household. I packed some of the ginger candy along with boondi and thala guli, which my father brought from the fair, and visited my grandmother. She wasn’t home, so I left the sweets hanging on her wall, hoping she would feel the love in every bite. ➡️ Back in the kitchen, I made Tamil-style chicken masala curry after a long time. I marinated the chicken with curd, lemon, chili, and salt, then fried and simmered it in a gravy made with spices, dried cashews, and tomatoes. The result was a bold and aromatic curry, perfect with soft roti or warm bread. To cool down, I made a ginger grape juice with lemon — simple, sharp, and refreshing. Uncle Sumith enjoyed it so much that he gifted me a beautiful pumpkin in return, a gesture that made the day extra special. This video is filled with ginger candy, chicken masala curry, grape juice with ginger, and Sri Lankan recipes made with harvest-fresh ingredients and time-honored methods. 💬 Have you ever used fresh ginger in sweet or savory recipes?
